Colour : Unicorns

Colour : Unicorns

With their forthcoming single “Unicorns”, four piece Colour are continuing to carve out a name for themselves as supremely talented and visionary young men. With technicality and musical excellence at the heart of their sound, the track possesses an infectious energy driven by simply magnificent drumming and intricate guitar playing. The guitars are light in tone but more than substantial enough to maintain the melody. Furious picked riffs combined with solid chords create the perfect contrast, allowing the vocals to shine through. There is much to be said for good guitar playing, and it is certainly present here. Both the implementation and tone are nothing short of perfect.

A sturdy bass line acts as a good anchor to the instruments, again filled with technical fills and flicks. The vocals are strange at first with Alan Welsh possessing a light yet sturdy tone, nonetheless offsetting the instrumentation well. When combined, each aspect of the track fits together so effectively that it is impossible not to feel impressed with what Colour have achieved. Such clever implementation of musical elements is rare to see, especially when it is done in such a fresh and clever way.

There is talent abound in this band, that much is easy to see. What is most impressive is the ability to channel it so successfully into such an impressive track when considering their lack of a record label. With such slick and technical instrumentation combined with untamed vision, it is surely only a matter of time before that changes.
