Whats New?

Gorillaz Video Screening : Gathered in a small studio in London’s Soho, you have to wonder what could possibly be so impressive about the new Gorillaz video that Britain’s journalists have been shepherded together for a screening. New single “On Melancholy Hill”...
Introducing : Glass Animals : www.4ortherecord.com hit fever pitch this weekend when not 1 but 2 new tracks from the incredible Glass Animals graced our inbox with their presence...
David's Lyre : Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present. Although if fairness exists in the world at all...
Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...
Lunar Youth : Interview : Lunar Youth make the kind of music that makes your heart skip a beat as the emphasis on romance engulfs you in a warm flurry of emotion. It’s really rather lovely. Their nostalgic take on pop, reminiscent of the 80’s penchant for...

Danny Krivit : '718 Sessions'

Danny Krivit : '718 Sessions'

Released: Out Now!!!

Label: Nervous Records

Do you own a bar? Is it ever so slightly pretentious? Open from 6pm and dead for the first three hours every Saturday night? Need to save money on a Dj? Buy this Danny Krivit offering, put it on repeat and Bob is your mother's lover.

718 Sessions is a mix of 'classic' tunes Danny plays at his NYC club night. There are some names you will have heard before, not least Jazzy Jeff. Unfortunately there's no summertime imaginings and certainly no room shaking magic. That's right Danny is an American. He plays house music. The bland sort, the not much cop sort. He's been Djing for years, probably before I was born and is a bit of an American legend. But then so are burgers and terrorism and no one's saying they're a sensible lifestyle choice.

On the plus side you're not going to offend anyone with it. At a family party, for instance, your gran will probably manage the shoulder bob and say “Ooh this is funky isn't it dear.” Your mum may get her circular arm movements out, dad will do the jazz head bob. And the dog … well he'll go all out and chase his tail to the beat like he's the energizer bunny on speed, but doesn't he do that to everything, it's the only dance move he knows.

Anyway this is all academic because, let's face it, when's the last time you thought 'if only I had a universal album which would defy generation gaps with its bland inclusivity?' Unless you're a wedding DJ with a name like Dave Discs, I'm guessing never.

Interesting fact re Danny: he has a vinyl collection of over 80,000 records. Greedy or compulsive, you decide.
