Whats New?

Gorillaz Video Screening : Gathered in a small studio in London’s Soho, you have to wonder what could possibly be so impressive about the new Gorillaz video that Britain’s journalists have been shepherded together for a screening. New single “On Melancholy Hill”...
Introducing : Glass Animals : www.4ortherecord.com hit fever pitch this weekend when not 1 but 2 new tracks from the incredible Glass Animals graced our inbox with their presence...
David's Lyre : Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present. Although if fairness exists in the world at all...
Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...
Lunar Youth : Interview : Lunar Youth make the kind of music that makes your heart skip a beat as the emphasis on romance engulfs you in a warm flurry of emotion. It’s really rather lovely. Their nostalgic take on pop, reminiscent of the 80’s penchant for...

Fenech Soler : 'Stop And Stare'

Fenech Soler : 'Stop And Stare'

Released: 19th April 2010

Label: Moda Music

I’m starting to wonder if Fenech Soler are able to put a foot wrong. Pretty much all their tracks are brilliant, they are progressing at a slightly unstoppable rate, yet carefully enough that they build a fan base under them rather than rising high on a pillar of sand. Oh, and they just happen to be absolute gentlemen as well, not to mention their recent collaboration with Groove Armada on the later’s back to form single.

Needless to say, then, that new single on Moda Music is an exercise in how to compose fabulous electro-pop. Synths dance around your ears while Ben’s vocals soar yet restrain themselves when they have need to. Melodies and piano riffs float in and out over the dancing synths as the whole thing comes together in a glorious almagamation.

Despite previously brilliant songs, singles etc “Stop And Stare” seems to mark a new level of songwriting everything feels that little bit more collected. There is a confidence that says “we can write more downbeat tracks now, but they will still make you dance and sound huge live.” This is the next level of Fenech Soler, welcome to it.
