Whats New?

Gorillaz Video Screening : Gathered in a small studio in London’s Soho, you have to wonder what could possibly be so impressive about the new Gorillaz video that Britain’s journalists have been shepherded together for a screening. New single “On Melancholy Hill”...

David's Lyre : Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present. Although if fairness exists in the world at all...
Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...

Full Time Hobby : Hobbyism

FullTimeHobby

Released : 16th August

Label : Full Time Hobby

Indie London label Full Time Hobby certainly have a lot to shout about. Boasting some truly unique and individual artists on their roster, what better way to celebrate than with Hobbyism, the superb compilation that demonstrates exactly what independent music is capable of.

From openers Erland and the Carnival to the spoken words of Malcolm Middleton, Hobbyism is evidently all about character. With the former's impressive cover of Jackson C. Frank's noir “My Name Is Carnival” and the latter's allegoric acoustic folk leanings, variation and quality are represented in equal measure.

This is also true of youth and experience. As well as relative newcomers The Leisure Society – single “We Were Wasted” is a particular album highlight – seasoned act Fujiya & Miyagi feature with quirky new single “Taiwanese Boots”, adding another dimension to the collated sound.

Yet it is School Of Seven Bells that really impress and display the label's talents. Currently highly regarded and rightly so, their breed of electro dream-pop breathes vibrancy into the track list. In “Babelonia” they have a single that showcases their considerable qualities.

Indeed the hat must be tipped to Full Time Hobby. Not only does Hobbyism display an evident and on going desire to keep music fresh and innovative, but also a desire to maintain eclecticism and variation, something they are certainly accomplishing.
