Whats New?

Gorillaz Video Screening : Gathered in a small studio in London’s Soho, you have to wonder what could possibly be so impressive about the new Gorillaz video that Britain’s journalists have been shepherded together for a screening. New single “On Melancholy Hill”...

David's Lyre : Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present. Although if fairness exists in the world at all...
Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...

Harvey Ovenden

HARVEY OVENDEN

Growing up in in the mean streets of deepest darkest Kent I naturally found my escapism in music.

At school I took up the trumpet, having narrowly dodged the stigmata of tuba due to my chubby teenage frame, and spent most my school life tooting away in various bands an orchestras. The rest of my time I spent loitering in the dungeon of the music department listening to classical, jazz, punk, rock and my first love, Britpop.

To avoid the deadly onset of Ford Mondeoitis I packed of to London to study music at university, and a world of gigs and strange new sounds shook me to my suburban core. To the baffelement of my fairly traditonal lectures I churned out essays on everything from French hip hop to the ecstasy-fuelled illegal rave scene and somehow managed to get away with it.

Now I reside in London, working for my gin and cigarettes in some too dull to describe job whilst still hunting for music that lets me escape it all, and of course bringing those findings to you, dear reader. When I'm not doing that I write and perform comedy to a degree of success from being bought a couple of pints afterwards to being chased out of Roehampton by an angry mob.
