Little Death : 'Just Say Maybe'

Released: Out Now!
Label: Not In Kansas Anymore
Back, post hiatus, from their 2008 debut mini album, Little Death are back to make use of the stir they created around themselves pre the new decade. This release combined with being straight off the back of a jaunt around the UK with Passion Pit certainly isn’t going to do them harm.
What we seem to have here is a well put together piece of indie-rock with some moments of lovely ambience and electronics moments. “Just Say Maybe” is a fairly balls to the wall number that strikes me as the sort of indie rock n’ roll piece Oasis might have made if they’d had any of the aforementioned testicular fortitude and weren’t, mainly, a bit shit.
“Violent Sea” reminds me of some of the vaguely post-hardcore stuff I was listening to a in my late teens, such as mewithoutyou, minus a touch of the vitriol and structural work to the songs; but a short sharp piece that goes more for the pop jugular than said qualities. Which, in all fairness, is what pop bands really ought to be doing!
Final track on the single, “World Won’t Wait” is a more melodic piece than the preceeding tracks, utilising a rather lovely guitar sound they have crafted a rather lovely song. The sort of thing that is the ideal album track, but is never really destined to be a single in it’s own right, complimenting brilliantly, but perhaps being a little too far from the pop template to work entirely on its own.
This is, then, a good , well rounded single package that, while not perhaps taking them big time, will at least serve to cement their reputation as a band with potential and gain them more support around the country.
