Lovvers : 'OCD Go Go Girls'

Released: 3rd August 2009
Label: Wichita
Without wanting to sound too controversial, the new Lovvers single, “OCD Go Go Girls” is what Kings Of Leon would sound like had they not gone for the big dollar and, musically at least, had their balls removed.
A searing piece of raucous rock and roll indebted to the scuzzyness of old rock, the 70’s surf and garage scenes, as much as their own backgrounds in the likes of The Murder of Rosa Luxembourg. Don’t let this fool you though, it is still filled with some brilliant melodies, soaring effortlessly through the distorted guitars and reverb coated vocals.
This track is, in fact, possibly one of the more melodic things to have emerged from Lovvers (not so surprising considering their hardcore and punk backgrounds, and The Murder Of…’s descent into blissed out jazz oddness on their swansong three track ep), and is also perhaps my favourite thing to have emerged from their guitars. Frankly, it all bodes frightfull well for the album which I am now rather excited about. I’m predicting a brilliant piece that will leave The Horrors wondering why their first record didn’t sound more like that, though not being too phased by it, as you wouldn’t be if you had just released Primary Colours.
