Marmaduke Duke: 'Rubber Lover'

With 16th Century Dukes, henchmen and wandering souls, Marmaduke Duke offer a brilliantly creative concept and an entirely fresh sound.
Going by their alias’ The Atmosphere and The Dragon, Biffy Clyro’s Simon Neil and Sucioperro’s JP Reid have donned full period costume and wholly taken to their ulterior reality. It’s a lot of fun, and it’s also extremely well written and flawlessly executed.
'Rubber Lover' is very short but also very sweet. At a mere 1:58 it offers little more than a taster of what the duo will be promising on their forthcoming album, but is more than enough to enhance the appetite . With its irresistible drum beat and delicate yet substantial melody, it is almost impossible to sit still whilst listening. Neil’s soothing Scottish tones deliver lyrics short on logic yet wholly intriguing, with “funky all the way home” being an accurate summation of the song. A sample of Billy Joel’s 'Sleeping With The Television On' lends a classic feel, but with such ingenuity and charm it becomes an entirely individual track.
There is no doubting that Marmaduke Duke will be a big name this summer. Their on stage get up alone will be more than enough to attract attention, let alone the duo’s star pedigree. But with such a fresh sound and an album of similar quality and quirkiness on the horizon, The Atmosphere and The Dragon should prepare themselves for a summer of magic and plaudits.
