Whats New?

Gorillaz Video Screening : Gathered in a small studio in London’s Soho, you have to wonder what could possibly be so impressive about the new Gorillaz video that Britain’s journalists have been shepherded together for a screening. New single “On Melancholy Hill”...

David's Lyre : Masked troubadour, David's Lyre is, like his semi-hidden aesthetic, somewhat of a mystery at present. Although if fairness exists in the world at all...
Frankie & The Heartstrings : Interview : Sometimes, (not often mind), you go to see a band with a vague sense of expectation, born from nothing more than early releases and odd pieces of press, only for, by some twist of fate, this band you considered “fairly decent” until now to prove one of the...
Lunar Youth : Interview : Lunar Youth make the kind of music that makes your heart skip a beat as the emphasis on romance engulfs you in a warm flurry of emotion. It’s really rather lovely. Their nostalgic take on pop, reminiscent of the 80’s penchant for...

Metronomy: Radio Ladio

Metronomy: Radio Ladio

Metronomy have been at the forefront of the bleeps and blops noise scene for about four years since the release of their debut album Pip Paine (Pay the £5000 you owe me) in 2006. However only in the last 6 months have they truly got the recognition they deserve, having previously toured with bands such as Klaxons and CSS.

It’s incredibly difficult to describe the type of music Metronomy make, coming in somewhere between cheesy pop music and noise, yet always incredible listenable and guaranteed to make you want to get up and dance.

This their most recent single (a re-release) is perhaps one of their most approachable and melodic songs and ideal for people who are new to Mentronomy, or for those who initially find the idea of retro sounding computer game dance music a little bizarre.

The song has an incredibly catchy chorus that is guaranteed to have everyone shouting R.A.D.I.O L.A.D.I.O in no time at all. The rest of the song is taken up by a male speaking nonsense in a mono-tone voice, although theirs no need to take any notice of what he says, the lyrics are just not important to enjoy it. The catchy mix of repetitive synths and off-beat drumbeats played underneath it are the only real things that require your attention.

The best advice is just to get this track and listen to it yourself, the song is incredibly hard to describe (partly because it is so strange) and I can assure you that listening to this song is ten times more fun than sitting reading about it.
