Teenagersintokyo : 'Isabella/Long Walk Home'

Teenagersintokyo : 'Isabella/Long Walk Home'

Released: Out Now!!!

Label: Back Yard Records

Australian five piece Teenagersintokyo have got some important admirers, and it's easy to see why. Recently championed by both Zane Lowe and NME, their new double single “Isabella/Long Walk Home” demonstrates the intricate beauty and fascinating blend of influences that have led to such high recognition.

The more hardy of the two tracks, “Isabella” exercises a strong electronic element, beginning with an unforgiving drumbeat and eerie synth whisper, softening only with the timely introduction of Samantha Lin's vocals. Although not stunning at first her clear tone wisps around the harder sounds, shifting focus as her voice grows in stature and echoes throughout. Persistent yet intelligent build up sees guitars and further synths join the mix, each adding definition to a now well rounded sound. To fuse such hardy and contrasting elements together is by no means easy, yet not the impression given when it is done so successfully.

“Long Walk Home” becomes somewhat more conventional, yet still managing to marry some varying influences well. Beginning with a dominant drum beat and a synth fit for any 80's track,  it is left for Lin's vocals to shimmer through once again, rising above the melody to great effect. A delicate guitar melody provides ample contrast to a burly bass line, whilst the synth manages to remain subtle at the right moments allowing the vocals to take focus.

For sheer artistry and beauty, Teenagersintokyo must be applauded. With such carefull planning and perfect execution they manage to turn to ordinary tracks into ones filled with beauty and innovation, whilst in Samantha Lin they have a vocalist that will star in any track, no matter what the backing.
