Temposhark : ‘The world does not revolve around you’

Released: 14th September 2009
Label : Paper & Glue
London based Temposhark's brand of upbeat, electro pop is certainly doing them plenty of favours. New single 'The World Does not Revolve Around You' released on 14th September, is a perfect example of a catchy, refined and well produced pop song. The music industry’s preoccupation with what is easily accessible and catchy will ensure the success of this frustratingly enjoyable jingle.
Singer/songwriter/keyboard player and generally god of Temposhark Robert Diament humorously dedicates the title and themes in this song to another’s' perspective of himself in the creative process, a tongue in cheek idea that can be appreciated by almost everyone. The song begins with a beautifully predictable yet fun chord progression complete with xylophones and layered with nod-inducing synth wanderings. Cheesy enough to make one think of Alphabeat at their commercial best, but without the associated feeling of nausea. The vocals here have the perfect slice of pop twang complete with expected yet welcomed harmonies. Yet it's the melody that makes this song effortlessly memorable. Diament wails 'you winge and you moan crying no one’s ever good enough' and the fun nature of this sure-to-be summer hit will be appreciated and promoted by an industry that are vultures for commercially viable and catchy songs.
Our neighbours across the pond have already picked this song up for several MTV shows including 'Paris Hilton's New BFF' and combined with a successful US tour under their belt, it appears things are looking good for Diament and Temposhark. The only problem that I can see is that the Hoosiers got there first. The styles are very similar, and while that is not a bad thing, evidence suggests (or the lack of from bands such as the Hoosiers) it doesn't seem to last. Such pop classics do seem to have a throwaway nature to them, so I would advise Temposhark to enjoy every moment. Judging by the nature of this brilliantly fun song it appears they are.
