The Horrors: 'A Sea Within A Sea'

What is seven minutes long and quite possibly one of the best things you’ll hear this year? The new song by The Horrors!
About a week ago, the band put a countdown on their website. Fans were eager to find out what was going on as the band gave no indication as to what they were up to. However, some were sure they knew it would be new material. Those who weren’t sure were hoping for new material.
Well, the week has passed and the new track is all up on the internet! 'Sea Within A Sea' is taken from the new album, Primary Colours and judging by the new song - it sounds nothing like Strange House.
I loved Strange House; I thought it was a fantastic debut record. But a lot of bands are greeted by the demon that is…..”The second album death.” Meaning, the second album turns out to be crap and nobody likes them anymore. This won't happen with The Horrors, I can promise you that much!
You’d think with a seven minute song it may get boring after a while or it’d take more than one listen to love it - but this is definitely not the case with 'Sea Within A Sea'.
A song that creeps me out still is How Soon Is Now by the best band ever, The Smiths. And I get the same creepy vibe from that as I do with The Horrors’ new offering. I honestly have no idea what it is, but I cannot stop playing it.
Faris sings on this track which probably makes it more “accessible” for those who were quick to ignore and dislike The Horrors when they first came out. They haven’t “sold out” by Faris singing - they’re just taking different influences and making it work. It sounds quite eerie and psychedelic, it almost feels like you are in a different world and your only guidance is Faris’ voice. The track just keeps building up with every band member taking a turn to show us what they can do.
If you didn’t like The Horrors when Strange House came out, then hopefully the new song and album will change your mind.
They are also touring at the end of May through to mid June - the venues they are playing are quite small so get your tickets and enjoy!
