Twin Atlantic : 'Lightspeed'

Twin Atlantic : 'Lightspeed'

Released: Out Now!!!

Label: Red Bull Records

With thick Scottish accents and tinny guitars, Twin Atlantic will no doubt face a fair few comparisons with Biffy Clyro in the near future. And whilst their sound bears similarities, the band possess more than enough individuality to stand out on their own. With new single “Lightspeed”, they demonstrate expertly all facets of their talent, with solid instrumentation and catchy hooks galore.

Whilst the lyrics may not be the deepest, the textures and depth of the track are pleasantly surprising. The guitars, whilst sounding initially straightforward, flow into a dreamlike chorus that carries a balanced vocal melody to great effect. Add to that the occasional technical riff and you have the perfect combination of simple and complex. Crashing drums compliment this well composed melody well, supporting without intruding whilst managing to add a slice of individuality itself. As mentioned, perhaps the only criticism could be the lyrics, with “Lightspeed, lightspeed/ they're never gonna get us all” forming the main crux of a somewhat basic chorus. Yet when compared with every other element it is a fairly flimsy one, especially when the lyrics are delivering in a gloriously strong Scottish accent that cannot fail to be adored.

As if to show off their talent even more, a stunning acoustic version is also present on the single. Stripping back to the bare minimum, no intensity or feeling is lost as the vocals glide over the melody with enchanting ease. It is clear that Twin Atlantic are a talented bunch and, with an album on the cards for later this year, no doubt it is something more people will be realising soon.
