Twisted Wheel

Where: Gloucester's Guildhall
When: 8th April 2010
All eyes are up front tonight as Oldham trio Twisted Wheel swagger on to end the mother of all punk-tipped rock’n’roll nights at Gloucester’s Guildhall. Supported by Cheltenham’s finest, Century Man, and local boys The Lost Gonzos, the Mancunian lads play a shorter set than expected in the biggest venue to date of their current headlining tour.
From the first jerked strum of lead vocalist Jonny Brown’s jet-black Epiphone, the band face one technical problem after another. If the cables aren’t falling out of guitars, the mic is swinging precariously away from Brown as he ferociously spits his infectious lyrics. But it’s not that noticeable and hey, it’s all part of the rock’n’roll lifestyle, ‘innit.

The boys handle the problems well at first, delivering a tirade of their energetically-vintage punk rock’n’roll favourites, including 'She’s A Weapon', 'Strife' and 'Let Them Have It All' to the bouncing, beer-swilling crowd before unexpectedly leaving the stage at the end of punk anthem 'Oh What Have You Done' without a word.
The bemused crowd, initially expecting Jonny, Adam and Rick to burst back on stage for a blinding encore, and hoping to catch some of those eagerly-awaited new tracks, are left a little disappointed by the band’s sudden departure. But they still leave the gig with a smile on their face and Brown’s catchy and inspired lyrics stuck in their heads. “Leave them wanting more as the door shuts behind you...” Well said.

Lead vocalist Brown got in touch with www.4ortherecord.com after the gig and said “We so fucked it up and feel bad about the short performance. The technical problems set it off to a bad show - we didn’t think it was okay out front so thought it were best to end it. We realise now that we shoulda played the full set. We’ll make it up to Gloucester next time.” So there you go Gloucester - expect bigger, better (and longer!) things from Twisted Wheel next time.
